My Story

My name is Tafadzwa Nyamuzihwa, 28year old male from Zimbabwe. I grew up in an orphanage since I was a year old. I did later learn that the circumstances that got me in the orphanage was I was left at a bus stop by my mother at night. As a result, of that day I don’t know any of my relatives. I got the love, care and support every child would desire in their life from my foster mom. She is the greatest person I have ever known in my life.  Sadly, I lost her 10years ago, I often pray; Chipo Zengwa may God rest your soul.

I had the privilege to go to school. Just after my high school I took up a Gap year and was coaching sports at a prep school. I have always had a passion for sports. I then went on to study a  Diploma  Sports Management and Coaching in South Africa.  Not long after, I began experiencing eye sight problems at the age of 24. I had to return back home to Zimbabwe. I came and saw a top eye surgeon in the country, he told me I had cataracts. He did a cataract operation and I did not get my sight. He then told me that I had a retinal detachment and decided to call in an Indian doctor and who did the operation. This did not go well. I never got my sight and became totally blind. I lost 25pouns the 1st week I got blind!! Twice I attempted to commit suicide twice but was unsuccessful.

Now remember, I grew up in an orphanage now I’m blind, carrying 2 burdens on my shoulders. I was kicked out of the orphanage. This was a very challenging time in my life and if not the worst I then went for rehabilitation.

I then received a full scholarship later in the year to study in India at The International Institute for Social Entrepreneurs. Now, I like their definition of a leader: a leader is someone who has faced a challenge and have overcome it and wants to create a change. Now I’m working on a project to empower the blind in Africa by improving literacy skills. There is much work to be done before our doors even open but due to the assistance of kind hearted people I know we can achieve our mission. I have struggled to register this project but work is underway. To learn more about us we are on Facebook under Shine On International. Remember all this is happening but I don’t have a place to stay and cannot even put a meal on my table. The orphanage kicked me out and now really struggling but I have a passion to make a difference in someone life.. I want to be ambassador of change. I would  appreciate any assistance so that I can put a meal on my table and a roof over my head. I hope by reading my story you could partner with me.

The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.
